The GoDaddy user experience needs work...

I recently had an opportunity to help out a friend by giving his company the ability to sell shirts on the website. When I received the site information all was well, after meeting to discuss the needs of the site and determine what technology to use, I began work.

I logged into the GoDaddy site, and was instantly flooded with the memory of past horrible experiences on the site. I forgot the feeling of totally being overwhelmed by Ad's and trying to comprehend a complex system with out proper information architecture or layout. The colors and visual clutter all over the place reminded me of a show about hoarders. There are no obvious paths for accomplishing user goals, there are tons of meaningless calls to action. Worst of all, when I had a problem and tried to use their help, it was totally useless. I ended up using Google to search for GoDaddy help, and thank god Google could bring up the correct help. I could go on for days about the help that the GoDaddy UX team should look at...

So after an atrocious use of hours of my time to accomplish my goal, I was curious to see what state their company was in UX wise. So I logged into LinkedIn and searched the company. I found out that they actually do have Interaction Designers, IA's, and a seemingly haphazard collage of UX people. I was pretty shocked when I saw this.

As not to totally bash the GoDaddy UX team, I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt that their company is run in the following fashion. I have worked for companies that are so focused on creating new products that they do not see the need to spend money on fixing their other products, in a "it's not broken, so we won't fix it" mentality. Little do they realize how broken it is... Hopefully companies who have this mentality and pattern of not realizing that software does need to be upgraded fail or learn.

Anyways, I am done with my rant about godaddy, I can only hope that I don't have to use their products until they get fixed...
